Below are photos of our walkthrough for installing a new hot tub.

The results of our walkthrough, with references:

  • Too many circuit breakers NEC 408.54

Service panels have a listed limitation which you can locate inside the panel door. This panel exceeds that limitation.

  • Not enough terminal spaces NEC 408.41

The wires secured to the metal bars in the panel are doubled and tripled in an unsafe manner.

  • No main service disconnect NEC 230.70, NEC 230.85

The customer has no way to shut off power to the home safely. In addition an emergency disconnect is required outside of the home (as of 1/1/26).

  • Unprotected and bundled cables NEC 334.15(b), NEC 334.80

The cables must be in the walls or protected in some other way. Bundling the cables tightly with zip ties can pinch them causing heat buildup.

These findings are saved to your quote for your reference.

Photos, electrical readings, code references. All saved to your account and available anytime. Upon review, a service upgrade was requested.

How we made it right:

  • Number 1

    We upgraded to 200 amps.

The most cost-effective solution was installing a 40 space service panel. Reworking the original panel into compliance would be wasteful spending.

  • Number 2

    We fixed other code violations.

We eliminated the bundles of incorrectly installed cables and worked in a second panel, concealing all wiring within the walls.

  • Number 3

We cleaned up and labeled everything.

We removed all trash, swept the floors, and made sure the panel schedule is labeled.

  • Number 4

    We stayed on budget.

The work was completed on budget as quoted.
